How come Speakout has no roaming when they also serve US?

SpeakOut Canada and SpeakOut USA are two completely different companies, even though they both share the SpeakOut name. SpeakOut Canada would need a roaming agreement with AT & T in the USA as well.

+1 for getting a t-mobile sim. You can either swap it into your Speakout phone (if it's unlocked; most are except the newest) or use the t-mobile phone. I got a cheap one at Target for $30 including ~30 minutes starter airtime and SIM.

Get your Speakout phone unlocked(they used to be, but not now when purchased) and pick up a t-mobile sim cheap. Use that sim with an unlocked phone in the US and the So sim in Canada.
Sign up with voip.ms and carry a laptop and headset and when convenient use the laptop and hs internet at a hotel etc., thus making long distance to Canada/US calls for .5 to 1 cent/minute with the laptop. Yes .5

I agree if you go to the States a lot, then go with a T-mobile prepaid SIM. The only thing is that'll have a US number. If you want the same SIM, the same Canadian number, then go with PCM, Rogers, Fido prepaid. They will ding you hard for long distance and roaming (anywhere from $2 to $4/min roughly) though.:frown:

I bought a couple of T-Mobile prepaid sims on ebay a couple years ago. It was only $10 every three months to keep the phones active. They work everywhere in the US whenever I tried them. Far better coverage than Rogers that was supposed to work in the US. They also work in Canada for a rate of about 70 cents a minute.

Once you spend over $100 on the phone, it only takes $10 a year to keep the phone active.

Neither SO nor PCM do. Rogers does as I would imagine some others, however the per-minute roaming fees are rapacious. Depending on how long you plan to be in the US it may be cheaper to buy a phone/SIM when you get there or buy a SIM and airtime off eBay. I've heard that you can get phones/SIMs in stores like Target and WalMart for as little as $20.
