I am in the same predicament (live in Canada, but go to the states every couple of months). I use Virgin Mobile. It's 20c/minute, but the minimum you need to top up is $60 per year, provided you register a credit card with them (Otherwise it's $80 per year)

Seems like T-mobile gets you a better deal per minute, BUT virgin has the "sugar mama" service. If you log onto their website for 3 minutes every day and watch some flash ads, it gives you extra minutes that don't expire! (up to 65 minutes every month) I spend some time doing that while I'm in Canada, and I never have to worry about running out of airtime when I'm in the States.

Additionally, you can get a basic LG flip-phone from them for free, while T-mobile makes you pay for yours.

I highly recommend.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. My friend and I are talking about sharing the T-Mobile SIM. That way, whenever one of us goes to the States, we take the T-Mobile SIM to use for phone calls while in the States.

Actually I think i'm gonna go with Tmobile's prepaid plan. It's much cheaper. Fill up with $100, it lasts 365 days, and 10c/min. $10 for future fills to keep 365days expiration. Nation wide calling in US. and I can fill online.

If SO in the US lasts 365 days, why not load up your US SO phone with more than enough airtime, enough to make sure it lasts until the next time you visit? Sure, your phone will have a lot of extra in airtime loaded on it, but it might be the best solution for you.

I'd be too much of a hassle to drive to Seattle to buy airtime... but if I can enter the PIN # bought from the 711's in Canada, that would be great.
