I could be wrong, but I think you would be charged airtime if someone leaves a message on your voicemail, even if it's 2 seconds and it is only a recording of them hanging up the phone.

Tell your friend to check his balance. Then call him and leave him a message. Then have him check his balance afterwards to see if it has gone down.

On Speak Out Wireless, the only charges one would face from their own voicemail is if they call it from their cell phone (regular airtime charges).

Otherwise, these cases should be free:

- someone calls the SO customer's voicemail and doesn't leave a message

- someone calls the SO customer's voicemail and leaves a message

- the SO customer checks his / her own voicemail from a landline

This is a followup to my wondering why my friend seems to have used up his $50 phone top-up so quickly. I'm on a Rogers pay-as-you-go, and get charged for one minute each time I call my friend's number even when his phone is turned off, because I get the message I'm being transferred to his voice mail which has not been initialized. So my question is, does he also get charged for calls to his uninitialized voice mail?
