Well, I just fired mine up and it immediately connected and everything works with no changes made. So it seems UMB is still alive as I write this. Would be nice if was alive until the end of the year were true, that would help bridge through and burn off $$ on 2 of my sims and then figure out what to do longer term in spring. Not likely going to be SO for data at these rates though.

I will treat it as rumour, but if true, it will be handy for me. I have credit for UMB to last me to the end of the year.

I hadn't seen this reported by others so I'm letting everybody know.

I spoke to an agent yesterday because I got the same message as others have reported, that I could not subscribe to the new data plan because I have a conflicting plan (or words to that effect). He advised me that my plan had been renewed on Oct 1 (instead of the 7th of the month as it has been previously). He also said that it would be auto renewed on Nov 1 and Dec 1 and therefore, if I didn't call them to cancel it, my UMB add-on would remain in service until Jan 1, 2014.

I view this as good news. If you have your phone set up so that it does everything you want now (rooted or whatever), everything will continue to work as is for another 3 months with a "fair usage" data limit of 1000 MB instead of the newly imposed 100 MB limit for $10. Lots of time to investigate alternatives and make other arrangements.

Hope this is useful.
