there is no way to get speakout service without FIRST purchasing the phone-service package? I have several cellphones that just need service.

You could buy a SO SIM from someone who has one for sale here, however, you can't buy just the SIM from 7-11. In any case, for $100 air time you get a phone with SIM for "free" so why not take advantage of that. If you don't like that phone you could sell it on this forum or on eBay, etc. -- minus SIM -- to someone who needs a replacement GSM phone that works with SO, Rogers or Fido.

I dont understand why this phone is on the grid. Its part of Virgins service and not apart of Speak Out.

Because the grid shows a comparison of all the phones you can buy at 7-11. Note that only the first four have the Speak Out logo, i.e. are intended for use with SO.

As you can see from the SO website, the Virgin LG160 is not a SO-compatible phone. In fact it's designed to work with a different cellphone technology altogether that Virgin (partnered with Bell) uses. It will not work with SO. The 7-11 should never have sold it to you with a SO airtime voucher never mind as part of the current promotion.

Take the phone back to 7-11 immediately and get it exchanged for any of the phones shown on the SO website. The Nokia 1208 is $74. If that's out of stock try to get them to give you a 1680 or 2760 for no extra cost since it was their error that you bought the Virgin phone.

I was in 7-Eleven intending on purchasing a Speakout phone-service package for as cheap as possible. According to the 7-Eleven page: https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/pages/phones/ (where it says "Click here to view the Speak Out handset grid.") it provides a PDF of handsets available thru the store. The Virgin LG 160 is what i found for $49.

Now after getting the unit home i'm getting the impression it is NOT apart of the speakout service. I havent opened the box yet but from the virginmobile.ca site it has basically all the features of speakout but it has a monthly plan of like $15/mon as opposed to $15 for up to 1 year.

Am i wrong? Is this Virgin LG 160 package i purchased from 7-Eleven (as indicated in the 7-Eleven handset grid and was handed to me by the attendant) equal to a standard Speakout package or must i shell out the min'm $74 for that?

Again i want free voice mail and a pay as you go charge that does not expire for up to a year. Anything less would be useless.

Thanks.
