There is no receipt from 7-11. You don't add and pay for the texting bundle at the store. You buy your cash voucher at the store, say $25, call Speakout and activate ULB, and the $10 is simply automatically deducted from the funds in your account. You won't get a receipt.

I thought that was for the UMB...I read that the unlimited texting had to be purchased in-store every 30 days....

This may seem like a strange question, but what does it say on the receipt when you buy the texting package?

I use a paygo phone since I can expense airtime cards through my work ($10/month). I'm contemplating switching to SO for the umb. Can't expense a $25 airtime card. So I'm wondering that if the receipt from 7-11was generic enough I would buy the texting each month and expense that, and not lose out on the $10/month from my work...

OK, so I added this yesterday.. you go to the store, ask fora "text msg plan" and they will print you a special PIN, similar to the topup PINs, but different..
you have to dial a 1-877 number from your speakout phone, don't worry, it doesn't charge you airtime.. I checked before and after, and my balance never changed..

then you have to enter your cell number, then add ytour text msg PIN.
it will tell you it takes up to 15 mins to activate and that you will receive a SMS when it's active.. (mine took maybe 3 mins).. enjoy..

this txt msg plan does not change your balance, or your expiration date of your minutes.. it only adds 2500 SMS for 30 days, after 30 days you have to go back to store and buy another PIN and activate again.. oh and of course, be prepared to pay the sales tax on the $10.. so it's actually $11.30 ... 🙂

Soooo.. You have to go to a store every month to re-add it? that makes no sense, esp since they have the unlim web that they collect from yoru balance.. why have 2 different systems??? when you add the $10 text card, what happens to your expiry date? I guess I'm going to be calling CS..
this is great tho, cuz I almost activated a Rogers SIM just for the specific reason that I now work out of town and want to txt my wife since I don't see her at lunch any more...

Sapien,

Those are some great suggestions.

As long as SpeakOut will always carry the 365 day expiry on all top-ups, then I'm happy.

Since they are offering texting bundles now, a good qwerty phone would make sense.

As for your first point, there is talk about SpeakOut offering online purchases (top-up vouchers) in the near future, and well as to check your balance. Maybe they we will be able to buy the texting voucher, as well as regular airtime vouchers.

I just happened to call SO Customer Service about something else so I took the opportunity to ask them a few questions about their new texting package. I put in my 2 cents and suggested a few things that I think would make it better.

#1 -- auto-renew/refill -- I'm not a big fan of having to go to a 7-11 store every 30 days just to buy a new $10 voucher to add the feature back on but I realize they're probably doing that just to force extra foot traffic to the store in hopes that you'll buy more stuff. I would rather it work like how ULB does now where you just "add" the feature to your acct and it auto-deducts/renews from your existing SO balance.

#2 -- tiered packages -- 2500 msgs for $10 is great deal but why don't they also offer other packages like 250 msgs for $2.50 and/or 1000 msgs for $5 as well? That would give people more choices and open the market up to those less-hard core texters. At those price points, SO beats Telus and Rogers so they might attract customers from them.

#3 -- texting phones -- I sure hope this opens the way for SO to have full qwerty phones now.

If you agree with any of these suggestions, please make sure you give SO that feedback so that hopefully they'll take that into consideration when/if they make future changes/improvements.

I'll get off my soap box now. Thanks.

If you buy a $25 card, you get 2 months of texting, with $3.02 left over for calls. ( I am also accounting the 99 cent system access fee each month)

I would imagine the 2500 texts/month plan is just for domestic text messages. They would probably would deduct more for international outgoing texts. (1 Canadian text = 1 text used towards your limit. 1 international text = 2 or more texts used towards your limit).

That would be my guess. Someone who knows more could text SpeakOut CS and find out 🙂

Sorry, let me clarify:

When you are sending outgoing messages from within Canada, this plan covers messages sent to Canada. However, while you are in Canada, does it also cover messages sent to the US? To Mexico and other parts of North America?

For at least those people who only text to Canadian numbers, this is a good deal if you send more than 100 messages in a month.
