Definitely T-Mobile in the US. Gold ($100) get's you a year and $10/year to keep it after that or $10 gets you 90 days and you can even shop for 3rd party time pins for 10% off.
Now they have a prepaid stick too for $50 from WalMart USA and for $30 you get 30 days/3GB data.
Good for us CDNs

You can also get your T-Mobile phone unlocked with T-Mobile(a few account requirements, hardly anything) and then use it with SO Canada. Currently using a T-Mobile Nokia 5230 Nuron.

Thanks for responding, bridonca.

From your post it sounds like the way it works is that I have to fund my account with $25. Then, any voice calls ($0.25 / $0.45 per min), text messages ($0.10 to receive), the unlimited data ($10), and the 911 fee ($1.25) will be deducted from the balance. Is that correct?

Thanks for the heads up about calling ahead of time - I will definitely do that.

You got it mostly right, but I will add a clarification.

It will cost you $35 plus tax. $10 for the SIM card, and a minimum of $25 for airtime. That $25 will last you a year if you do not use it up, or 2 months if you subscribe to data. You get charged $1.25 a month as a system access fee.

I should also add that you should give the 7-Eleven store you are about to visit in Canada a phone call. I do not know if all 7-Eleven stores sell standalone Speakout SIM cards yet, being it only came to be about a month or so ago.

Hey everyone. I live in the US and will be visiting Canada (Niagara Falls and Toronto) soon. I am trying to figure out the best way for me to have good / cheap cell service, including data and it seems like Speak Out is the best option. I have an unlocked iPhone 3GS that is on the AT&T network.

Please confirm that I am understanding everything correctly:

* I can buy a SO sim chip at any Canada 7/11 for $10
* I can get unlimited data for up to 30 days for $10
* It costs $0.10 to send a text within Can/US and is free to receive from anywhere
* I don't have to buy a bundle of minutes up front
* I can pay-as-I-go for voice minutes at $0.25/min for local calls and $0.45 for long distance Canada or US calls

Thanks for your help,
Jason
