It'll help you decide which area code you will want your new number in. You can also port your Bell number to SpeakOut if you do not wish to lose the Bell number as well.

If you get a number in area code 705, your local calling area is ALL of 705. As soon as you step outside that area, you will pay long-distance for any calls.

The notion of being contract free makes Speak Out appealing. My question relates to choosing a phone number that will minimize long distance charges. I understand that long distance is largely determined by where you are 'calling to' than where you are 'calling from'. Both my home and cottage are located in a rural area to which calls to and from Lindsay are not long distance when using our Bell land lines. Would a Lindsay cell number then allow local calling on my cell to both the cottage and my home?
