That's fine if you want to look elsewhere, but SpeakOut is still the better value. I personally wouldn't lose any sleep over 5 cents. (SpeakOut $0.25/minute to Virgin $.20/minute)

I also was at Virgin Mobile before I came to SpeakOut. With that Virgin plan you mentioned, you have to pay $20 each and every month. That's $240 a year. With SpeakOut, it can cost as low as $25 for a year.

Unfortunately, it's already a close call for me and SpeakOut: at the "effective" rate of 20¢ per minute, I'm pretty close to a Virgin Mobile $20 / 200 Mins plan (that I quit to switch to SpeakOut)... so if they've cut the cord on the 25% bonus with >$75 vouchers, I will look elsewhere after my airtime runs out.

Forgot to ask if that applies to everyone but he did ask for my phone number so I'm not sure if it is on the first of the month for everyone or if I just happen to have activated my phone on the 1st day of the month back then.
And he did confirm that receiving text messages to be free. The race is now on for which will arrive first: the new SO phones or the new 27" iMac I just ordered.

When is the 99 cent monthly fee charged? Today is Nov 01 and I only have 40 cents left on my phone, which expires on July 2010. I'd like to hold out till Nov 16 and get the $100 promo with the free phone, hopefully one that has a camera. I can go another 2 weeks without using the phone (unless the 99c is still coming in the next few days and put me under). I'm a very light user and would much rather extend my expiry date by another year (giving me almost 2 years). At the same time I don't want to go out and purchase a $25 voucher if I can help it.

Ideas appreciated.

Petro Canada Mobility only has the 365 day expiry on the $100 top-up voucher. The other amounts last anywhere from 30 days to 180 days. With SpeakOut, any top-up lasts 365 days. That is a HUGE advantage over the competition, and in my opinion, one of the few things they have over the competition.
