Once again, this is probably the 50th time I copy and pasted this, but this is a direct copy and paste from the official SpeakOut site:

"While traveling, will my outgoing calls be long distance, if they are local to the city I am visiting?

Yes. You are charged long distance charges for any calls while outside your local calling area. Your phone number is assigned to the area you designate your local area."

That copy and paste says it all. That you are traveling, and physically outside your local calling area, and you are charged long distance rates for any calls while outside (physically) your local calling area.

I can attest I was charged the long distance rate, when calling back to my home.
My SpeakOut phone is based in Niagara Falls (area code 905). I called twice back to my home landline number in Niagara Falls. The first time I called home I was in Ottawa, well outside my local calling area. The second time I called home I was in Montreal, even farther away.
I can attest that both calls I was deducted the long distance rate, because I was using my phone outside my local calling area.

I made 2 calls from Ontario back to BC 250 area code; both were 2mins each; both were .50each call (.25/min each min). I also made calls from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, & Calgary - the same rates applied so I know I wasn't just "lucky" as you state.

I believe you are confusing the statement "calls made outside your local calling area" - possibly you're taking this to mean any calls placed while you are "physically" outside your local calling area; what it actually means is calls placed to numbers not within your local calling grid will be rated as long distance.

You might have been very lucky, since all outgoing calls made outside your local calling area are deducted as long distance calls. You were 2/3rd's across the country from your local calling area!

I just did the opposite; I have a BC area code & while I was in Ontario I made an call back home to BC - it was rated at .25/min (even though it prompted me to dial the "1"). I also received calls from BC - they were rated as a local rate .25

Your phone is tied to Toronto, so any outgoing calls made outside that local calling area will be deducted as long distance calls.

If you call a Vanvouver number while in Vancouver, you WILL be charged the long distance rate, because your phone is tied to Toronto. A copy and paste from the SpeakOut site:

ANY incoming calls, regardless of location, are billed as local calls, because you did not initiate the call.

Also, if someone from 416 calls me on my SO with 416 area code, while I am in Vancouver, will I be charged just local rate to answer the phone?
