The US and Canadian cellphone markets are way different. Most of the time we're getting ripped off. 🙁

However, my guess is that Speakout will keep it's 365 day expiry time, at least for the $100 top-up (at a minimum), because many of the other cellphone companies (including Rogers) have a $100/365day top-up. And Speakout does use the Roger's system.

And, in all honesty, the 365 day expiry is Speakout's MAIN selling point. Without it, Speakout might as well give up.

Besides ignoring what freakout said, I just looked at the US site.

The expiry dates are now 30 days for 10$, 90 days for 20$, 120 days for 30$ and you get 365 days from 50$ or 100$.

Will this not mean they will do the same in Canada?
Since when do they have these denominations in america? Is it recent? If it is recent, then I fear for speakout in Canada

I use SO because I work at 7-Eleven so I can get the special employee airtime vouchers. The $25 card gives me $30 worth. I'm an occasional talker but frequent texter so the 5 cents incoming/outgoing texts are fine. with Rogers and Virgin incoming texts were free but sent texts were 15 cents. My Rogers plan was 25 cents a minute for the first five minutes of the day then 15 cents. Virgin was only 10 cents a minute local but I couldn't find any nice phones on the virgin plan. So I ditched Virgin and bought a nice PAYGO Rogers phone, got annoyed with them (so not going their), then I got the cheapest PAYGO SO phone and switched the SIMs so I have SO on the good phone and the cheap phone put up as a spare.

System glitch. Speak Out's effective rate for $75 and $100 vouchers is still $0.20 per minute.

The rate is $.25 a min., but when you buy a $75 or $100 voucher, you get $93.75 or $125 worth of credit. That is what "effective rate" is supposed to mean. Ie, you get as much total time credit as if the rate were $.20.

$15 Up to 30 days
$25 Up to 120 days
$50 Up to 180 days
$100 Up to 365 days

now this really sucks for occasion users, the minimum to spend is $75 for 360 days,

since petro and 7-11 are both from Ztar, any guess that 7-11 will do the same thing to make their customers pay more?

I bought a $75 voucher last night, trusting their literature that I'd get the $0.20/minute rate. I noticed today that I was being charged the .25 and called customer service. They told me that the $0.20 for $75 and $100 vouchers was a limited time promotion. I told them that nowhere in their literature, signage, or web site is that indicated, but they still told me I was basically screwed.

I told them they'd just lost a customer.

If they want to raise their rates, fine. But don't deceive your customers into buying triple the airtime they'd otherwise purchase.

Made me wish so hard yesterday I would have bought the 2 free phones last August. I thought hard to buy it but then I said, hey I have PCM and it's only 20c/min for 180 days. Very likely I will consume my airtime before then. Now I'm getting as you said royally screwed with 25$ airtime for .25c/min and only 120 days.

Are you saying that since July 1st, the bulk of my $100 that I topped up last Oct. has been billing at the higher rate (as I have about $54 right now; boy, now I'm not as pissed that texting cost me so much this summer). Though, that might explain why my $100 showed up as $120 last year...which ALMOST makes up the diff.

When my $100 ran out, I was just going to put on $25 at a time until another phone (or minute!) deal came along. Now, I don't have the leisure time to pick and choose. 🙁

$.20/min for the first 5 minutes each day, then $.12 per minute afterwards.

$20 min. top-up each month.

But these rates ONLY apply when you sign up for a monthly pre-authorized payment plan.

If you don't get on the pre-authorized payment plan, then it costs $.25/min for the first 5min per day, then $.15/min afterwards.

That plan is great if you make a couple of calls per day (at least on the days that you make calls).

If that doesn't work for you, then Speakout may be better.

Why go with 7-11? Hmmm..

You are saying I get 12 cents/minute with a minimum month top up of $20???

$20/month X 12 months = $240.00 annually. (and that's a minimum).

With Speakout, my annual top up costs $25.00. That's $215 a year more money than Speakout.

Speakout is for users who use their phone occasionally, like myself. I would rather pay $25 or even $50 a year than $240 a year as you suggest. Airtime is carried over with Speakout as well.
