Calls from 780 to 825 should be local too, though I haven't encountered an 825 number yet to try it.

If you want to also call 403 numbers without paying long distance, you can switch to a 587 number. Customer service confirmed that all of Alberta is a local call for 587 numbers and I assume it's the same for 825.

Thanks bridonca. There's a pdf of a matrix of the local calling areas (see link below) but it's of a vintage (2008) when there were only the two area codes (403 and 780, southern and northern Alberta, respectively). It shows that those two area codes were separate local calling areas.

Anyways I submitted the question to SO customer service and will report back when they reply.

Anyone have any experience with local calling areas in Alberta. I have a 780 area code so I understand that all calls to a 780 number will be local. I'm wondering about the
587 and 825 codes which overlay all of Alberta.

From WikiPedia:
780: Northern Alberta
403: Southern Alberta
587: overlays onto all of Alberta
825: overlays onto all of Alberta
