The U.S. market is crowded with low cost carriers, Tracfone, Net10, Virgin, and more whereas Speakout has a niche in Canada since no one gives one year before you have to get a new card.

hi i have been reading most of posts on this site. i have been considering switching to speakout myself because i have heard that they are lauching a texting bundle. i also like the fact that the prepaid cards last longer too. i'm with rogers at the moment. the one thing that is holding me back from switching to speakout is the closer of the 7-11 stores. the last thing that you want to find out when you go to buy your top up card and the clerk says we don't sell them anymore:???: i live in the niagara region

For myself, I'm into SO b/c it is cheaper and flaunts the other carriers even if we use Rogers infrastructure or outer-structure. The whole 365 day credit term and freedom to choose when to use that time, tickles my fancy and suits how I use my cell phone.
I have friends whose identities are their cell phone.
I'm just about to embark on the UL browsing using my phone tethered(?) to a laptop
in cottage country.
When and if SO goes under , I'm sure I'll go looking for some other similar alternative.

SO is almost a protest movement as far as I'm concerned

Although its a little annoying, the 911 fee is only about 25 cents more than everybody else. I assume that they are just passing on the cost from Rogers, as 25 cents a month from each subscriber isn't going to make a huge difference to the solvency of Speakout. Having spent time with several other carriers, this increase is a drop in the bucket in comparison to what is being done elsewhere. Ive had cards go from 90 to 60 day expiry, per minute charges increase, text message rates increase, as well as being charged for incoming and outgoing texts.

Every new carrier I've been with has been exactly the same, using low rates to attract users, then once established, they raise their rates to be in line with the big three. Hopefully SO won't follow in their footsteps.

that is true but whats with the deal increasing the 911 fee to a 1.25? this might be a little off topic but all of the other carriers only charge 0.75 cents for the 911 fee? if only use the 25.00 dallor card your only going to be left with 10.00 to talk or text with? this is the highest 911 fee being charged in ontario. i like the the fact all of there cards last a year but if you think about it don't you think that people are going to start complaining because of the increasing fees in the past months. look when they added that texting bundle. they raised the 911 fee up by 25 cents? it seems when thay add stuff they rasie the price of something goes up a little bit. i also understand the fact that they are a low cost carrier and they have to rasie prices to keep a float. i guess i'm thinking out loud on this topic:???:

Canadian & US operations have little to do with each other. 711 likely has very little to do with speakout either, aside from licensing their name and actually selling the product. So long as the service is profitable for both sides, it will continue to operate.

Speakout's demise would more likely come as a result of Rogers raising prices or making demands about speakout's rates.

Things are different today. Rogers have become more money conscious or profit oriented than customer satisfaction. When you have setup on top of such provider, things will change. I doubt they will expand. Small market will be closed and only big cities will provide store service.
