This has nothing to do with SIMs. SpeakOut is a GSM-based service too so your phone will have a SIM. It's just that in Canada, with most prepaid and postpaid plans you have to pay for incoming.

By contrast, in Europe you pay for outgoing landline local calls by the minute but in NA you can make them for free. Does that make European landlines a rip-off?

GUY/GAL, that's how prepaid works. If you don't like it, don't answer your phone or sign up for a monthly plan.

Geesh!

If you make a lot of calls, especially eveings and weekends, then the SpeakOut offer may not be appropriate for you.

OTOH if you can find a basic cellphone and service plan for less than $8/month the first year and $2/month after that, then please tell us about it.

Umm, can you tell me where you've ever seen a prepaid phone that has free incoming calls without any sort of monthly plan? This has more to do with ridiculous unrealistic expectations than with this being a "rip off."

You should have done your research beforehand, and crunch the numbers to see if would make sense for you to go with SpeakOut. But I do agree with you...

"i think they should change and make incoming free...!!!"

... but not gona to happen.

A lot of people are light cell phone users, and SpeakOut is way to go.
