I added the $1.99 International/long distance add-on (to my existing $50 300minutes/text plan), received the number to call and then dialed the UK (cell) number.

I get a voice telling me I have 6 minutes.

6 minutes until what? I run out of call time I assume, but where does it get that number from?

Does anyone have a clue how this works? :)
