I seem to recall that the current promo (of buy $100 airtime, get $59 off a phone) is not as quite good as a similar promo which ran Nov-Dec 2009 (in which they offered an additional 25% bonus on the airtime). Will someone confirm that?

Does anyone know when there will be another similar promo, especially whether there will be one at the end of this year? SO tends to offer them at particular times of the year, but I do not remember very clearly when. I am asking in part because the current phones on sale are not quite what I am looking for.

You can port a number if you wish. The code on the receipt is not attached to the phone package you buy.

Agreed, but like you said it depends on usage pattern. I had those Rogers $100 since April and I've used up only 23 so far. With Speakout I wouldn't worry about that, cause I can buy $25 if I have too much left over from before. With Rogers it's $100 firm, so it's like savings account for me -- I put more money than I waste.

The good thing about Rogers is that $100 you can sign up for 1cent evenings and weekends, so if you talk a lot on evenings, then they are a better deal. For me personally I found it useless though, since most people call me during business hours.

BTW, I just activated my free Speakout Nokia and they gave me 416 number. What the hell? Is this standard with Speakout? I kind of wanted 647 :frown:
416 sounds like I am 50 years old and this is my Bell rotary phone.

EDIT: On the second thought I think 416 is fine with me. Plus they added to my balance $5 on top for activating a new (free) phone. So I am 100% happy.

1. To be fair, Rogers PayAsYouGo do have one denomination ($100) of airtime purchase that lasts for a year. Just that SpeakOut has got ALL good for a year. I think it depends on one's usage pattern... if you are extra low volume subscribers, then SpeakOut suits you better than Rogers.

2. Currently SpeakOut handsets are locked to the SIM card with the IMSI bearing the reference of 302-370 i.e. Rogers. So Rogers, Chatr, Petro-Canada SIM cards will work with the SpeakOut handsets. Fido (320-720) SIM card, however, will not work.

They basically discount $59 from any phone as long as you buy a $100 voucher.

I bought mine in a Vancouver store close to the Granville skytrain station, I believe it's located on Robson between Seymour and Granville, that was the only place where they had the Nokia5130 although by now they probably have run out of it. Total was $180 for the phone, the $100 airtime and the tax.
