Hmmm - so it looks like canceling extra features and switching to the cheapest plan they offer is the way to go. I am pissed that the first CSR did NOT mention any $25 "migration fee" - the cost of a new SIM card they are not giving me. I want to fight them but hate collection agencies. Once again:

FIDO CANCELLATION NUMBER: 1-888-259-3436

- If you subscribe to a monthly package and want to switch to prepaid service, a migration fee of $25 will be applied to your last invoice.

Found this number online, and it really works. Only on hold for 3 minutes!

Used up my Fido reward points ordering a Motorola MotoRazr V3. Called Fido, canceled my voice mail and switched to cheapest pay as you go plan. No problem, they pro-rated my bill to today - I'll port my number over tomorrow.

Then my wife called to do the same thing. This time the CSR said there was a $25 charge to switch to pre-paid! When told her husband just did the same thing without being told of a $25 charge - the CSR still would not relent. Rather than pay $25 for nothing, we switched to the cheapest plan they offered, $10 a month.

Still plan to cancel Fido A.S.A.P.

Not sure if you can switch to Fido prepaid without incurring any extra charges.

I'm with Fido, and my contract has finally expired. Stumbled across this site & decided to switch to SO.

Called Fido to cancel, figuring on porting my number just before the 30 day cancellation period is up. The CSR said if she canceled today I could NOT port my number, but could use my phone for 30 days. OR I could have SO port my number to the new phone, which then cancels my Fido account, and I STILL have to pay 30 days for absolutely nothing!

I figure my best bet is to call Fido, cancel my voice mail & call display ($9!) and accept one of their offers for the cheapest pay-as-you-go plan they offer. Wait a day or so, then port my number - so at least the last 30 days is as cheap as possible.

Any better ideas out there?
