What I need to know is the 'locked' business. Can one take the SIM card out and put it in another GSM phone? If I buy a prepaid phone at Futureshop for e.g., can I take the SIM card out that's locked to Rogers and replace it with the SIM card of a phone bought at 7-eleven OR a SIM card I could potentially buy on here?

FYI: In speaking with a customer service rep at Speakout today I found out that the "buy a $100 airtime voucher, get a Nokia 1661 free" promotion is actually effective to the end of February 2011 and not Dec 31/10 as advertised. I double checked with the rep that I had actually understood correctly and he confirmed that this promo was effective til end of Feb 2011.

I'm sure glad I did not wait till after Dec 31st to get in on this deal as I was told by SpeakOut Customer Service that the offer expired Dec 31st.

Also, every 7-11 I visited in person (3) had the banner removed & when I inquired I was told the 1661 with purchase of $100 voucher offer is no longer valid. Also the official website has the offer removed.

Hi - I'm new to this forum and deciding whether to purchase the $100 airtime with free phone. I have had speakout phones for about 3 years, but am wondering if they are coming up with an email solution. Does the "e-commerce solution" include email capability? Can you tell you tell me more about it, or is there already a link to discussions about this that I have missed?

I know you opened another thread today (which I deleted) because you said you felt the original thread wasn't answered quickly enough. You only asked originally 2 days ago (on Christmas Day), so I suggest having some patience, because not many people are on this site 24/7, especially around the Christmas holiday.

Just want to make sure I understand a few points:
* I was reading about the Petro-Canada option and though phones are sold at lower price I notice that not all airtime vouchers are valid for a full year (365days). With Speakout I can get a $25 airtime voucher when my 1st year is about over and once activated the remaining airtime I had plus the $25 airtime are now valid for a full 365 days...in the long run the SO pre-paid plan seems to be the cheaper option.
* I'm in the 519 area code and calls made to 416/647 or 519/226 or 905/289 area code phone numbers (even if I require to dial 1 first) are considered local calls and I'd be charged $0.25/min. If I'm in Windsor (with Windsor phone #) calling Toronto, it is considered local; if I'm in Toronto (with Windsor phone) calling Toronto it is considered local; or if I'm in Toronto (with Windsor phone) calling Windsor it is considered local??
* Long distance calls (those made to numbers with area code outside 'local calling' area) incur a $0.20/min charge on top of the regular $0.25/min airtime charge; so LD calls are charged $0.45/min?
* although not familiar with texting it might be the most cost effective use of my airtime in a few situations I'd see using the phone for; the Nokia 1661 doesn't sound like it's the easiest to use for texting. I would only text short msgs but if I wanted to upgrade to say, as I read on another thread, a Nokia C3 (or whatever inexpensive compatible phone with QWERTY layout) and simply put my current phone SIM card in it and continue to use the service with new phone.
* there is a $1.25/month 911 fee but no ohter charges or fee; just pay the $100 + taxes and get the Nokia 1661 at no charge and pay for airtime used + $1.25/month deducted from airtime balance.
* does the phone (Nokia 1661) come with airtime/airtime voucher (20 mins I think is what I read) if phone is obtained as part of this particular promo or does airtime come with phone only when buying phone without buying an airtime voucher?

I appreciate any input, clarification, correction or feedback anyone can provide.

I purchased the $100 airtime and got a free Nokia 1661 phone on November 16. I didn't add the minutes on until the next day, and I still got the $25 credit. Not sure if this is because I purchased the airtime on November 16...

Yes, from my experience they seem to be, other than that a Rogers SIM card seems to work just fine. I did try inserting a Fido SIM card (in to my Speakout phone) with no success.
