Actually it's 25% more, e.g. $125 credit on a $100 top-up, so you get 25% more texts, etc.

Or you can look at it like all the costs are lowered by 20% - per minute rate is 20cents, monthly fee is 80cents, texts are 4cents, etc.

If you're going to use at least $75 in airtime/texts/whatever per year, then get a $75 or $100 card if you can.

Buying either the $75 or $100 card will make a bit of a difference on text. Buying those higher priced top-up vouchers, changes the "effective" rate, regardless if the top-up voucher is used on calls or texts. You get a bit more money than the $75 or $100. It would be a nominal decrease though. Instead of the $0.05/text charge to domestic numbers, the "effective rate would be something like $0.04/text.

Please also note the chart on the home page of this site, under the heading "Summary of "effective rates"

ok thx, i guess that clerk just didn't know what she was talking about then.

i only use my phone for text, so i guess buying the $75/$100 airtime card won't help me much since it only lowers the min rate, not the text rate?

Hi Matt,

ALL SpeakOut airtime refills last 365 days. They tried to introduce a top-up voucher that cost $15 and had an expiry date of 30 days, but that was cancelled before it really got going (thanks to the outcry brought on by users of this site)

I have found unfortunately 7-Eleven clerks can be clueless. I talked to a clerk at a 7-Eleven once, and he said he was unaware of SpeakOut!

Rest assured, no matter what denomination of top-up you buy, they all last 365 days.

You should be fine with the 365 day expiry for your $25 voucher.

Your voucher should say right on it "$25/$50/$75/$100 expire 365 days after activation.

weird, the cashier at the spadina/college 7-11 laughed at me when i asked to buy the $25/365 day expiry airtime. she said it was only the $75 and $100 that had 1 year expiry.

but i just called the don mills 7-11 and they said the $25 airtime they sold was 365 day expiry. which is should be right?

it's my first time to buy airtime, i started using speakout with a sim that already had mins on it.
