What I would like is some plan that gives a minimal amount of data at the highest speeds possible, which then defaults to some slower speed if you go over some reasonable cap. I don't do any browsing on the phone, but keeping address books and calendars synced is very nice, and not having to hunt for WiFi when out and about if I want to look up something or send a quick email is also convenient.

Having a system that charges for bits like we get charged for minutes would be good - but since I don't really know how much data my iPhone is actually using in the background I don't know that it would be simple to manage.

My preference would definitely be "cheap". I am one of those users who only adds a $25 top-up once a year, and I always have a balance to carry forward. I have a Nokia C3, which has some "smart" capabilities, and wi-fi capability, which works so-so. I have never had a pressing enough need for on-the-road browsing that I've been motivated to upgrade what I have. So, I probably would not sign up for any per-month data charge. I might take advantage of some kind of pay-as-you-use per-kB data access, for occasional email access, but that's about it.

(As for all of those people I see walking around, cell phone in hand, thumb actively poking away at the screen, I really do wonder what they are spending their time (and money!) on.)

same here.

5 dollars a month unlimited(or say 500MB) EDGE is perfectly ok. Mobile data to me is an extension of mobile voice/sms(communication), not an extension of TV to watch porn

For me, its got to be chaep, and available in small increments.

To me internet on a phone is only acceptable as a last ditch emergency solution for when you're stuck somewhere with no other means of getting onlin any time soon but you really need to respomd to an e-mail or get a certain morcel of info off the web.

Otherwise I have no interest in surfing the net, let alone watching sports or videos while squinting at some POS with a 3, 4 or even 7 inch call display which I have to hold up to my face. I consider this "work" for which somebody else should pay the bill as well as paying me!

But, I'd be willing to try something that gives me a handfull of pitstops on the web without having to find WiFi (and ocassionally buy something) – as long as it doesn't increase my monthly cost by more than $5 at most.

I don't really care what is offered for $10 because $10 is already out of the question (at least for as long as I have internet access elsewhere)

So 2G is about 150kbs.

In reality, there probably isn't any legacy 2G equipment sitting around.

Given the choice, what would you prefer? Unlimited 2G data or Cheap 2G data

If it was unlimited, what would be a fair price.

If it was cheap, how much would you get, and how much should you pay?

If it was unlimited 2g data, I think $20 is a fair price?

I think that if it was cheap, I think $5 for 100mb? I'd love $1 for 10mb.

Thats a price that I might sign up for.
