Would Rogers-pay-as-you-go phones work with 711 sim cards just like other Roger phones?

Yes. Rogers, but not Fido.

If you had a Fido phone, you can use it, but you'll have to unlock it first.

Of course. But that is also true of any locked GSM phone, e.g. from AT&T or T-Mobile US, etc. If the phone is locked it has to be locked to Rogers in order to work with SO/PCM (because they use the Rogers GSM network.)

True. I just mentioned Fido to head off any future confusion or questions on this forum thread.

Thanks for answering. I noticed that futureshop shop is selling (likley subsidized) pay-as-you-go moto kazr for $75. I wasn't sure if the 711 sim would work in the same way.

For that price it seems that you would probably have to sign up for a 3year monthly contract with one of the big boys.

That's exactly what I did… Purchased a Rogers prepaid/pay as you go Moto Razr from BB and slipped in my SO sim.

No contract of any kind needed.

But presumably that phone is still locked to the Rogers network. So even though it's a quadband phone you won't be able to go outside Canada, slip in a local SIM and use the phone there. (I have no idea how difficult/expensive it is to unlock a RAZR, or what features are crippled in a Rogers-branded RAZR.)

hi-just purchased a $100 air time deal with free Nokia 1208 and will put SO/711 SIM in my rogers blackberry (use for phone/text only) & will port my rogers phone# to SO/711 SIM
will there be any issues with me porting my phone# to SO since my blackberry's IMEI # is attached to my rogers#….??

No. Expect SO to ask for that IMEI in order to prove to Rogers that they're authorized to port your number to SO.
