What happens if I sell my phone and the person I sold it to returns it?

I just sold my Nokia 2760 that I got from my local Petro Mobility today to someone in my city. I included the receipt for the person I sold it to in case he/she needs to use the 1yr warranty. But I'm wondering what happens if the person returns the phone (I paid for it in cash), will that stop my petro-mobility SIM card from working?

If that's not the case, then what's stopping someone from buying the phone and taking the sim and returning it (given the attendant forgets to check for the sim card before allowing a return or even checking but finding another company's sim card and accepting the return)

On the activation sticker is the same IMEI number as on the cell phone box: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I…..t_Identity

I wouldn't worry about it. From the PCM FAQ,

If you are not satisfied with your Petro-Canada Mobility phone within 15 days of purchasing it, you may return the phone for a full refund of its purchase price only. Any usage charges prior to return, such as airtime, long distance, additional services, etc., are non-refundable. Any unused cash you still have on your phone is non-refundable. The phone must be returned to its original Petro-Canada point of purchase, in its original condition, with all original packaging and components intact. You must present the original receipt.

So your only potential risk is 15 days. After that the only recourse the buyer has is to get the phone fixed by Nokia under their 1-year warranty.

As for "what's stopping someone from buying the phone and taking the sim and returning it" that's fraud, plain and simple. I would expect PCM and ZTAR to do everything they can to stop someone who did that, including invalidating both the phone's IMEI and the original SIM that was assigned to it.

Hm, hopefully I didn't sell it to the wrong person who goes returning it for cash (I sold it for much less than the listed price).

Enrichthis,

From your explanation, I gather that you kept the SIM and sold the phone. If that's the case, you shouldn't have a problem.

If the person wanted to return the phone, they would have to return the ENTIRE package, which obviously includes the SIM card. Since you have the SIM card, they cannot return the phone.
