Hi guys,

Just wanted to report another success with iPhone 3G and SpeakOut unlimited browsing. Just got it going this evening.

Bought the phone from a friend who just got an iPhone 4. It was locked to Fido. I did a jailbreak & unlock, after which my SpeakOut SIM (from a Nokia 2760 I bought in Aug. 2008) was recognized and I had SpeakOut voice & text.

Based on the positive report from GreekWizard:

I called SpeakOut and activated the 'Unlimited Browsing', then rebooted the phone after about 20mins. I got a text from SpeakOut saying my new service was active, I also saw the 'E' beside 'SpeakOut', indicating my phone could see the EDGE network.

I went through the steps laid out by Glen Lalonde:

At which point, I was then able to run the apps using the SpeakOut data connection.

Thanks to all of you for your continued efforts, trials and testing. I'm another happy user.

I don't get it... in what way is the browsing "unlimited" if you have to pay per KB on top of the base $10? When I started reading this thread I assumed that unlimited means you pay $10 and you can browse as much as you want.

I was just going to order it. I asked about it, he said $10 / mo for unlimited browsing and then data was $0.04 / KB . But, for some reason my call jumped from the customer service guy back to the automated menu again asking for options.

$0.04 / KB is really high. That's $40 / MB

Your phone being a Fido adds to my theory that non Rogers branded 3G iPhones should work fine.

Thats not true. $10 per month is absolutely all that you have to pay.

Anyone have any luck with using this plan in Android?

Android does not seem to support using an APN proxy server, except for the built in WebKit browser.

perhaps someone would have the answer to this. I have a jailbroken/unlocked iphone 2g and have set it to work with the SO unlimited browsing. It has been working well, but I can not get push to work. Prior to setting up the SO browsing settings, I was running a cydia app called push doctor and it was working well. Once I reset the settings, push dr. no longer seems to be functioning properly. I have since tried reinstalling it a number of times, but it never seems to work properly. Anyone have any idea how to make push function as it should? Perhaps I am going about this all wrong? Any help is appreciated.

I do not have that phone, but it should just work with speak out. I have no way of confirming that sadly.

Jackson, I'm having the same issue with Push notifications on my 2G. I've installed PushFix2, which includes PushTest. The test shows that push can work over wifi, but fails over the data network. I assume that if you have data on, push defaults to that, so you simply won't get any Push with data enabled. If you disable data, you should get push over wifi.

Wondering if its a result of the 2Gs being hacktivated or if its due to the Rogers proxy. Anyone on SO data have any luck with Push Notifications?

just wondering if anyone can help me out:

after using the settings on this forum, when i try and click on the "INSTALL" button in the iphone configuration utility it does nothing, and my device has no configuration profiles showing up. I have checked the settings and they all seem to be right.

does anyone else get a INSTALL button that does nothing?

thanks,
Curtis

Curtis, you on a mac or PC? what version of the utility are you running? What iOS are you one? What model iPhone is it?

I know there was an update for the utility recently and I purposely didn't upgrade. The version I have is 2.1 and my 2G iPhone is on 3.1.2. I've never had your issue, but I have had a message saying the profile could not be installed. A complete restart seemed resolve that issue.

i got the same problem before, but somehow managed to get the software to install. But deleted the profile , when i was tinkering with the other 2 IP addresses and tried it again and it wont install now. i complete restart of the iphone? i did that by pressing and holding the top button. is there another way to complete restart?

You could try doing a hard reboot of you phone, just press both the power and home buttons, keep holding both until you see the apple. Failing that, you could do a backup and restore, but as you are probably jailbroken, that might be a hassle. Try things like rebooting the PC, reinstalling the utility. Do you have a friend with a mac?

Also, on your phone go to Settings/General and scroll down and see if "Profile" is there. If it is, click remove, then try and reinstall it.

i tried all the above ways but still get the same problem, when i click on the Install button it does nothing.

in the Settings/General i dont see any profiles? would they be under a different folder name? or in the About section?

would i need to reset network settings?

You could try resetting the network, thats relatively painless. You might have to do a restore and re-jailbreak if that doesn't work.

ya, i tried the resetting of the network and also got the speakout phone support to reset it. Still doesnt work.

When i click on the INSTALL button and my phone is connected (and on the slide to unlock page) it opens up my phone, but doesnt start downloading/installing anything.

when you do this do you get a screen showing the INSTALL being downloaded?

what is the process you go about when you want to switch IP address profiles?
