OK, I called customer service a 2nd time but this time didn't tell them that I wanted a 2nd SIM for my existing phone (one SIM for work, one SIM for personal use) and told them I had another phone that I wanted to use with SO. This time they told me to buy a $25 SO voucher (in lieu of a credit card payment) and they could activate it over the phone and send it out via Canada Post (7-10 business day delivery). Going to get my voucher and order my 2nd SIM card!!!

Just called customer service and asked if they would sell me a SIM card and I was told NO, I must buy a handset to get a SIM card. Maybe they have closed this loophole?

Hey i just e-mailed about it, and they responded with this:

"Yes you can purchase just a sim card. The cost is $25 You will need topurchase at least a $25.00 SpeakOut voucher at a 7-Eleven in Canada andthen call customer service at 1(866)310-1023 and navigate to customercare and they can assist you."

askspeakout

As long as you have a $25 voucher, you should be fine

I ordered my SIM card last week and it came in 8 days. Not bad, considering it was only 6 business days and they said it would take up to 10 business days to get mailed out. Along those lines, I have had nothing but good experiences with SO customer service.

Went to 7-11 this morning, bought a 25$ voucher, called customer service and ordered a SIM card which is coming now in the mail. Will post again when I try it with my locked Rogers phone.

On the FAQ on getting a SIM:

“Can you purchase milk without a cow? Well, same thing. Sort of. SpeakOut Wireless does indeed sell SIM separately. Contact Customer Care at 1-866-310-1023 and an agent will take all your information. A new SIM card is $25. You will need to purchase a minimum $25 voucher from your local 7-Eleven.”

So there you have it.

Flawless and easy process. Purchased my voucher, called customer service on Feb 24 to order my SIM card, received by Canda Post on March 3. Installed SIM into my Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro, setup account. Very simple process.

I do believe it is one year. When you get the SIM, just call *777 and it will tell you.

alright thanks. maybe this is ymmv? i called in but was told you had to buy from the store.

edit: i called in again but this time i said i had a speakout voucher and wanted to order a sim and this time it worked. doesn't the airtime on a new sim card with a phone bought in a 7-11 store expire in 30 days? or is it a year also.

Hey Guys! I`m going to move to Toronto soon. How can I purchase a SIM card only as I do have a cell phone. What is the easiest way to do it? I want to make international calls as well and I`d like to keep my number and just top up my card. Does it really take couple of days to get it? Is there any place I can just walk in and buy a SIM card??
Thanks for your help.

Hey! The easiest way to purchase a SIM card only is to go to a 7-11 store and buy a $25 speakout voucher. Then call customer service and ask them to ship a SIM. They will ask for the code and serial # on the voucher. Shipping can take anywhere from 5 daays to 2 weeks.
There is no place that I know of that sells Speakout SIM's; but I wish there were.
There is also a buy/sell/trade forumwhere you can buy cheaper SIMs in the GTA.
