Porting into SO, balance saved or cleared?

Hi, I'm curious as to what happens when you port a number into SO. Does it have to be a new unactivated simcard or can it be an activated one? And also, if porting into an activated sim is allowed, does the remaining balance stay with the account?

All SO phones are already "pre-activated" with phone numbers. You must provide SO customer service with the account number and phone identifier to prove that you own that phone number before you can port it to the SO phone.

SO does not charge for porting a number in, although you may get hit with charges by your other cell phone provider.

The balance in your SO phone account will remain intact when the number is ported in. You cannot transfer the remaining balance from your other account to the SO phone.

I ported my number from a Telus pay as you go phone to my SO phone. It was really easy, and the hardest part was pulling the battery off the Telus phone to read the phone identifier (not difficult).

I want to port my Rogers Paygo number into 7-11 speakout. But the problem is I still have $60 of airtime on my Rogers SIM. What happens after they port my nuber over to SO? Do I get a new number with Rogers so I can use up my leftover balance or will my Rogers account be closed?

When porting, you lose all remaining balance on the source account (i.e. Rogers in your case).

When porting to SO, do I have to give them the SO phone IMEI as well? What if I only bought the sim card second hand, can I give them my existing phone IMEI?
