I just read a thread regarding this topic, it says, I should activate (make the 1st call) the phone as soon as I got it; otherwise, the system thinks the phone is lost or something. Is this true? Do you know if the SIM works on the Nokia E65? Will it maintain all the features on the phone? e.g. caller id, etc.

Thanks,
Ken

No, it's not true, at least not what you posted. Perhaps you can post a link to the thread in question.

That said, I would activate the phone fairly soon in order to establish that it does indeed work and that the phone number is active. If you wait too long (30 days) after purchase and the phone is defective or there's something wrong with the SIM you may not be able to get a replacement from 7-11.

Do you know if the SIM works on the Nokia E65?

It should.

Will it maintain all the features on the phone? e.g. caller id, etc.

Depends on which features and how they're provided, i.e. by the phone, the carrier or a combination of the two.

I would suggest as Bylo said. Make the first call asap. 7-Eleven keeps track of all phones, and they may de-activate a phone (sim card) if it hasn't been in use for some time. I have seen this before.

The sim will work on your Nokia E65, provided it's unlocked. A Speak Out sim will work on any unlocked GSM phone that uses the North American bands (850/1900mHz)

It will maintain only the features that Speak Out provides. For instance, Speak Out provides Caller ID, Voice Mail, Call Waiting, and Three Way Calling. However they do not provide Call Forwarding, or unlimited Web access. So if your unlocked phone already has options for Web access and call forwarding, they will not work with Speak Out, because they are not available.

Hi,
Thanks for the info.

I've got one more question, you mentioned Web access will not work, is it the same as Wi-Fi capability on the phone? i.e. Does it mean I can't surf the net using the Wi-Fi feature on the phone? Or, it's different.

No, you won't be able to surf the net using the Wi-Fi feature. You can only access the features that Speak Out provides, such as the ones I listed earlier.
However, you might be able to download ringtones, games and wallpapers, from a Speak Out only "site", just like the way Virgin Mobile Canada has their VXL "site" on VMC phones.

Speak Out has 2 data capable phones right now, the Nokia 1680 and the Nokia 5200. Unfortunately, my phone is not a "data capable" phone, the Nokia 1208. So, you might want to try the options in your phone, to see if anything comes up.

There might be a ton of features on any given phone, but only the features supported by Speak Out will work.

Also, I found this on the Speak Out site. It's a c & p:

"Additional Features

Are there any additional features?

Ring Tones, Games, and Handset Backgrounds are available on Data Capable SpeakOut Wireless Handsets (Additional Fees Apply). See Phones for data capable phone selections."

I'm pretty certain that you can use WiFi on the e65 even on Speakout.

I have an iPhone on Speakout, and I use WiFi all the time. If the Nokia E65 is anything like the iPhone, it won't care what your carrier is if you're using WiFi, since the data will be going to your home (or work) wireless network, not on the GSM network.

My apologies )

I thought he was asking if Speak Out had wireless Web, and they don't as of yet. You can Wi-Fi with a different provider, just Speak Out isn't offering Web access.
