DISASTER HAPPENED AND MY PHONE WAS THE VICTIM...

some stupidly idiot ran over my nokia 1680 with a car. How much of a dolt do you have to be to run over a cell phone... well I can tell you it was very easy finding the guy who did this act of intelligence as it was actually ME!..

So all joking aside I did run it over but it was because I left it on my trunk lid and dove away and the neighbors kids found the phone in pieces in the middle of the road..
funny thing is the pieces were, the phone body, the battery and the battery cover..everything was there and actually nothing was even broken or missing. even the thin plastic battery cover didnt break or crack . there was some scuffing but thats it..the screen didnt crack but its not working properly..

the display does fire up when you turn it on but the whole screen stays black but there is a little slight bit of activity witht eh screen . basicly when turned on it goes from the off flat black screen to a slightly lighter color of black when turned on..

no logos no words not numbers no anything is ever displayed. she is completely dead on screen and it seems to be the programe possibly but it could be anything, hey the display is not working..

here is the funny thing the phone still rings and recieves phone calls no problem.... so its basicly a in coming call only phone as you cant really dial out as there is no display at all.. you might be able to luck out and if you tried to dial out after the tenth attempt. its very hard as you really dont know what menu or screen your on or if you are even dialing correctly.. its near impossible to make calls. receving is again very easy and working fine...

So here is the PROBLEM I am HAVING!!!!!!!!!
I need to get the contact info and phone numbers that are on that phone but I cant because I cant see where I am navigating as the display is dead..

I know there is away of transfer the information on the phone directly to the SIM card through the menus and screens but not able to do this as you guest it she is a dead display..

I have tried to copy the same amount of button paths down on paper while doing the same functions on my new nokia flip speak out phone but its not the same amount of steps or something as nothing is getting transferred to the sim card when I duplicate the steps on my dead screen nokia..

QUESTION??????

?1 what are the mini plugs on the phone for as one looks like a mini USB...Im not talking about the headphone or charging jacks, Im talking about the rectangular multi prong plug that lloks like the one on my digital camera..I am assuming that it has something to do with the camera functions but does anyone think theremight be a way to get the contact info transfer with this mini USB socket via a cable???????

?2 Here is a big request/favor .....can some one please write down the number of steps or buttom navigations on the nokia 1680 to get the phone to dump all the contact info to the SIM CARD. SO IT WOULD BE LIKE HIT ARROW UP THREE TIMES , ARROW DOWN 2 TIMES , ARROW LEFT ONCE, ARROW DOWN ONCE, CENTER TWICE... AND SO ONE.. this is just a totally made up example and will not do anything close to load up a sim card with contacts, but it would look like that..

so if you can do it with your display covered up and it works then its going to work for my dead screen phone.. I really need the contact list as many are work numbers and business contacts and I really dont have anyway of getting the names and numbers again...

I have tried that phones sim card in my new nokia flip but its blank, no contact info was ever save to the card.. I guess the default set up with these phones is to use the internal memory to store all the contacts and the SIM is only used as a manual way of backing up those contacts.. well I found out the hard way..

tip!!! make a copy of your contacts onto your sim card just in case your phone gets RUN OVER like mine did.. what an idiot that guy was who ran over my phone, I see him every day when I wake up and look in the mirror...lol

Itemized Summuray!!

my screen is dead!!!!!!

1. some help with the key strokes or button mapping to get to the "transfer to sim card function" and write them down for me...

2. back up your phone to your own sim card so this doesnt happen to you

3. can I transfer the internal memory through the mini usb cable from one nokia phone to another nokia

totally appreciate any comments that might help me out with my problem..

you can EMAIL ME AT MOXAMILLION@GMAIL.COM

I'm in southern Ontario

download and install Nokia PC suite

plug your phone into your computer via the provided cable

you should be able to see all your contacts and edit them that way

you can also backup your phone info onto your PC and possibly transfer it over to your new phone

The phone numbers are stored on the sim card, so all you need to do is remove the sim card from the wrecked phone, and put it in another unlocked GSM phone, you should be able to see the numbers.

Folks,

A few things need to be clarified...

* The Nokia 1680 DOES NOT have a mini-USB port on the side. That jack on the side is Nokia's proprietary "Mini EZ Flash" port for hooking up Nokia service equipment and flash boxes. Though there are unsanctioned data cable on the market claims to be compatible, it is not necessary working with the Nokia sanctioned PC Suite program.

* If the phone is set to use the "SIM card" or "Phone and SIM" out of the box, then it will be much more easy to deal with. So just try to see if the Contacts are in fact stored on the SIM card in another phone first.

* Otherwise, try the following keystrokes...

1. Power on the phone (Hold the END key for 3 seconds)

2. When the start-up jingle plays, wait for 6 seconds. Then press the END key a few times to clear anything.

3. Press the MENU, 3, 10, 1, MENU (for answer YES) to "Copy From phone to SIM".

Good luck 😉

* Note: The beauty of Nokia S40 UI does not require to use the navigation keys to navigate in most menu items. You can literally press MENU (the centre button), then quickly the NUMBER key directly in sequence!

So in this case, it is really straight-forward "3" is just the 3 on the keypad; "10" is 1, then 0 in sequence.
