I am switching out from Rogers into Speakout. I already have an activated back up SO sim card with some balance on it. It is my back up phone.

Just wonder can I just port Rogers number into this old sim card without losing my balance? Or do I have to buy an un-activated sim card, then port the number and add the money.

Thanks in advance.

No, you can call SpeakOut customer service, and port the Rogers number onto your SpeakOut sim card. You don't have to buy another one. As long as the SpeakOut sim hasn't gone past the expiry date, and the account is active, you'll be fine.

Hi iamdrumming,

Thanks for the reply. I called up Speakout customer service yesterday and the porting request was done with 10 min. I was told that it would take 2 to 3 working days. I never know that it is so simple.

Wow….Speakout people is fast. When I got back home after work, the porting process is already done. Less than 24 hours. They are the best. No more Rogers…..:)

Good to know. , so, what info do I need to gave SO when porting my rogers number to SO. Do I really need the IMEI number from rogers, or just the rogers account # is good enough. Thanks

No..not need to give out your IMEI info. Just your Rogers account # and your Rogers tel # as far as I can remember. SO needs an active # to do the transfer, so make sure don't cancel your Rogers # before the transfer

My rogers contract is expiring on July 10.

Since you have to give Rogers 30 days notice to cancel your wireless service, what is the best procedure to time the porting process to SO?

Should I on June 10, call Rogers to cancel my service (this give them the 30 day notice), then say a few days before the contract expires (i.e. July 8), call SO to port in my Rogers number? Is this enough time for SO to port it?

You do not have to give Rogers any notice when porting a number, The porting process cancels the service for you. Rogers might or might not bill you for the last month though. Get Speakout to do all the work, and if you get a bill from rogers on the last month even though you are not using the service, just pay it, and use that experience as a reminder never to go on contract again!

You should be able to port from Rogers to Speakout within minutes, because Speakout uses Rogers' network and phone numbers already.
