The phone will not work when you turn it on, or rather, the network will not recognize your SIM card.
You need to make a call from another line to activate the phone through the automated system which takes less than a minute. Then the phone will work. Setting up the voicemail will take another minute or two.

NO…found out when i activated the phone i bought my grandson and then called the number on his birthday so the wrapped present would ring and surprise him.
It didnt work
called SO and they said HE has to call 611 to activate the phone
disappointing BUT
a good idea, really, this way he will learn about all the features and tricks and not accidentally waste air time
