I recently purchased the Nokia 5130 (blue trim). A very nice pay-as-you-go cell phone.
Pros:
2.0mp camera – low quality but decent for a quick capture when comparison shopping to refer to at the next store or at home. Also good for capturing a photo of your contacts to add to their profile.
External speaker for music – loud enough to hear from my holster when I forget my headphones and I'm BBQing outside.
3.5mm headphone jack – use your current favourite headphones, no hassle.
FM Radio – great feature. You have to use your headphones to act as the antenna.
Dedicated control buttons for music – Easy to use when playing MP3s or Radio while working out at the gym.
Cutomizable – wallpaper, ring tones, Assigning buttons.
2″ colour screen – so much easier to look at.
1 Gb memory card – comes with some sample music and Guitar Rock Tour Game. In addition to the games that come with the phone. Room to add more of your favourite music.
Cons:
No holster – I suppose that way you get the one you like.
Directional Key Pad – gets pressed easily in the holster or pocket and usually turns on the camera. I set the key pad to lock when I'm not using it, that seems to work.
Downloads – not many available at Nokia site. I'll have to seek out unofficial sites.
No QWERTY keypad – this would be nice, maybe on the next new 7-11 phone.
Battery time – I've played with it quite a bit and had to charge it at least every other day. I thought it would last longer.
Update June 20th, 2010:
I've been using the phone for close to a year now without any issues, though I've never dropped it which makes a big difference. It still works like new, and the battery still holds it's charge like when I first got it. I've been using it sparingly for phoning, but a fair bit for texting, playing mp3's and as an organizer. The music player works decent, but I find the shuffle setting repeats song too frequently so I have to forward to the next song to try and get something new. To get around the direction key pad issue (the camera used to turn on when I put the phone in my holster – the up direction on the key pad is easily pushed) I customized the up direction to have no setting so that pressing it does nothing. Never had a problem since. Another tip that works well with any phone with an external speaker: if you're making a phone call in a loud place, once you're on the call the option to switch to loudspeaker appears in the bottom right. Click that and you'll be able to hear really well. This allows you to speak hands free while driving too, I just place it in an inexpensive GPS style windshield mount that can be bought at Canadian Tire or other stores. I'm still liking the phone after a almost a year, that's a good sign

Someone should see whether one of these sites work for unlocking it:
http://www.peters1.dk/unlock/n…..p?sprog=en
http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop/nokia_unlock.php
I’ve used them both in the past with success. However, proceed with caution — I am not guaranteeing that they will work, and if you try to unsuccessfully unlock a phone too many times, it will hit another unpleasant level of lock on you.
Edit: As noted in the post below, the phone cannot be unlocked by the sites above.

The Nokia 5130 can not be unlocked by those methods.
Read this post over at the howardforums site:

Here's a copy and paste anyways of that post:
BTW, let me to remind anyone who think about unlock the 5130 XpressMusic, please beware… this model is among the first bunch of Nokia models with the firmware having a new security / encryption scheme for SIM-lock, namely SL3. So far, only a handful of 3rd party unlockers can unlock SL3-equipped Nokia – and they are NOT available in Canada.

Peter / iamdrumming,
That's right! Don't be confused by the reference of "5130″ because unlike the DCT4 generation model, the "Jamma" 5130 XpressMusic is technically "5130c" ("c" for classic), based on the BB5 generation platform.
As of today, all those "free code calculator" (thanks to Dejan Kaljevic) are ONLY for DCT3, DCT4 models – not even DCT4+ models like the 1680c! Most current Nokia models are BB5 and DCT4+ for the entry-level ones.
Certain earlier BB5 models that came with the hardware and firmware employing the SL1 security have finally been cracked by unlockers around the world but still require to connect them with special dongles / cables / boxes. Nokia, of course, has stepped up the efforts in the "cat and mouse" game… with the SL2, and now SL3 security measures.
In other word, "Jamma" 5130 XpressMuisc is not only a BB5 model but also have SL3 to make it even tougher to crack the SIM lock. So the only sure way to unlock it for the time being is either obtaining the correct code from Nokia or Ztar/SpeakOut! An unlocker team, DM3, claims to the first in the world to unlock BB5 models with SL3. However, they keep everything to themselves and they have no Canadian presence.

Hopefully the ability to unlock the Nokia 5130 will be more well known, and be available in Canada soon. I know I want to get mine unlocked if possible.

I dont care so much about unlocking but since our speakout 5130 only has the old 6.65 firmware I am in the process of updating mine. I am unfamiliar with mobile phones in general and unlocking is another level. However, this video shows it can be programmed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..uU5vfz73Gk
I have Navifirm (to download the new firmwares)
JAF.1.98.62 to communicate with the phone
OGM_JAF_PKEY_Emulator_v 5 so you dont need to buy the JAF box you can use the free USB cable.
*note for win7/vista users: to run OGM_JAF_PKEY_Emulator_v 5 you must r-click > properties > compatibility > win XP sp3
** only runs on 32bit windows versions
*** you need to run these programs as Administrator (r-click) or just disable UAC.
Still want more instructions?
>Paste for 5800<
1. Download JAF 1.98.62.exe
http://rapidshare.com/files/18……98.62.rar
2. Download JAF PKEY Emulator v5.0
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QYR4571O
3. Install JAF 1.98.62
4. Extract JAF PKEY Emulator v5.0 to desktop (will emulate jaf tool box)
5. connect ur Nokia 5800 and select PC Suite mode on your Nokia 5800.
6. Now run JAF PKEY v5.0 and click on the GO button. It will come up with error: box driver not installed –> so click ok and now JAF v1.98 will run.
7. select BB5 tab –> tick Prod. Manager –> then click the service button –> click the Read Values button.
8. Now u can enter ur product code and press the Write Values button and boooom it all done.
use this mod at your own risk

I'll wait to hear from others before going ahead with that. They ask for your IMEI number, isn't that risky?

Again,
Read above. You can NOT unlock the Nokia 5130 Xpressmusic by entering codes generated by any website. It uses the newest SL3 encryption.
