I was on Fido Prepaid for many years. My work provides me with a phone so I used my Fido prepaid account primarily to hold my own # and forward calls to my work cell. Since I don't use my personal phone too much my Fido prepaid account was banking around $200 in airtime. I thought that was a was of money… I had to buy $10 every month to keep the phone active.

Recently I ported my Fido # over to SO with ease. I bought a SO sim online and activated it and added $25 to the account. I then called CS to have my Fido # ported over. It was a breeze. I gave them my newly activated SO #, my Fido account number (which I got from calling Fido) and in a couple of days it was ported over.

It was a shock to find out that call forwarding isn't supported. Oh well… fortunately, I use my SO sim with an old iPhone 3G so I installed NotifyPro that will forward SMS to email and also if someone calls, it emails me the # that called. I then receive the emails on my work iphone. At least I can call them back. So now I save tons of money by spending only $25 a year….
