Check this out - Staples is selling Android phones now. This is a ONTOP Nugget D5. I've never heard of them so I wonder how good it is. It's unlocked and supports dual SIM.

QHD 540x960 resolution is a bit brutal.

User Talk Time is 6-7 hours and Standby Time is 15 hours, which is pretty bad.

Not that I was in the market, but I think I will pass on this one.

FINIAL UPDATE : the phone had a serial number 0123456789ABCDEF and Wifi MAC address change every time you turn on the Wifi.

I go back to staples and got a new one but had the same issue so I will return it.

==============================================================

I buy one today and just want to use it as a ebook reader.

It is a big screen low end cell phone and you got what you pay for.

You need to do a firmware update before you can get the Google Play Store apps show up on the phone. So at less you will got firmware update.

The Wireless MAC change every time you turn the Wi-iFi off and on. This is a problem for my router setting but may not for most of the people who do not setup Wireless Filter on there router. I am not sure is only my phone had problem and it is a bug, I already email to gotop and waiting for reply.

To put in the Micro SD card, you need to take out the battery which is not a good design.

GPS take long time to locate my position but it is working.

Build-in Browser working better then Chrome broswer.

YouTube performance is good.

Using Dice Player to play .rmvb video file without any problem or delay, .avi and .mkv had hardware decode and play without problem.

When I play with it, it is easy to use, and you can just hold down the home key and get the list of running apps and stop any one you want just like the iOS 7.

The performance is very good.

Not bad at all for $180 and it come with a Bell SIM card. I am use it as a ereader so I do not active the phone part and had no idea how the performance about the phone section.

One little thing is when I go into the Recovery Mode, it showing in Simplified Chinese. I am OK with it but not everyone can read it so it may be a problem.
Also very limited information about this phone when you google it.

Can this phone use one SIM card for pure data and another SIM card for calling? if it is, we can use 7-11 for calling and Wind $10 1Gb data together.

Not wind compatible. A lot of these dual SIM phones can only use one network at a time, I am not sure if this is the case for this phone.

I think I will stick with my brick for Data, and a flip phone for voice. Cheaper that way also.

This phone do not support Wind, only Bell, Telus, Rogers

I do not use it as a phone but it had a SIM manager apps to switch which SIM you want to use.

I bought a Wind SIM card today. it is $10 for 1Gb data a month, no contract.. tested at my home with Fongo, pretty good. The only thing for Wind is its coverage.

I do not think it even has a GPS. Certainly not listed in the specs. Another reason to stay away.

I had turn the GSP on and my wife holding it whin I am driving.

The GST test program take way longer then my Nexus 7 ( 2012 ) to locate the GSPs. But it is working. I had not do the test with Google Map but it should working without problem.

Base on I read some other forum from Taiwan, some Chinese Table and Phone may had the GSP database base on China and will take longer time to locate your location.

Do you have an icon on your apps? When I slide down from the top, I find the GPS icon in there, I think it just turn on or off the GPS function. Do you need to find it from the apps store?

The Nugget D5 won't work with Wind. The FAQ say so.

The link you provided says standby time is 5 days. Not 15 hours.

this is more or less a china phone relabelled you want a pure china phone and not having
to pay for the relabelling is the STAR W450 model go in google search you will find it under
$100u.s shipped, 1.3ghz QUAD CORE processor, antutu benchmark (computer and graphic
speed) is 17000 this phone you quoted is 1.2ghz so its around 13000 antutu score, also
the STAR W450 is half the price of this phone another key thing its google certified which
means it will have gmail, youtube, google maps and most importantly google play store
installed, another cool thing like the nugget phone its also dual sim so you can run speakout
on one sim and on the 2nd sim run windmobile data only 1gb a month for $10 have the best
of both worlds.17000 antutu benchmark the latest highend smartphones that cost $700 are
not even twice the speed of the star w450 antutu benchmark around 32,000 (xperia z1).

With all due respect, the Star W450 is an awful phone that should never be recommended. 854*480 resolution on a 4.5 Inch is absolutely horrid. It only has one usable 3G frequency in Canada, and that is 850 mhz, which is fine for Bell/Telus, but may not work on all Rogers towers. When Rogers bought Fido, Fido was 1900 mhz only, so Rogers did not upgrade all Fido towers to 850 mhz, because 1900 mhz was good enough spectrum is some areas.

It will not work with Wind, because Wind uses AWS 3G, which can use 2 parts of spectrum, 1700 mhz and 2100 mhz. Wind needs both. 2100 mhz 3G is not the same as AWS 3G

Then there are things you do not know about. Build quality? Screen quality? Battery life? Only one SIM works at a time? Warranty? You do not want to deal with China sellers when your gadget is defective. Trust me.

The nugget phone is sold by Staples, so if you do not like it, you can return it, and if they play hardball, you can get a charge back. Try that with a China seller.

actually i checked this thoroughly the star w450 is wcdma for data so ROGERS
only does HSDPA but they say it does WCDMA 3g on the 850 band i'm going to
confirm this as well.so rogers will atleast do EDGE speed on the 4 gsm bands
but on the other band 3G 850 WCDMA BELL and TELUS and ROGERS and
VIRGIN is capable. again the same with speakout still a great phone.I think virgin is
the best they offer deals for members 2 for 1 cinemas and other things ontop of tuesday
half price and ontop of the scene card buy 10 movies watch 1 free. Plus $5 for mobile
tv bell wants you to commit to a monthly plan before they give you mobile tv bell wants
you to commit to a service plus another $2 more to voice to text translation cool feature
don't need to listen just read the text of your voice mail. I am waiting for the mobile
carrier companies to offer music not just mobile tv they did it in greece here we have
slacker radio but in europe there is also spotify can download as much music you
want through the cellphone free doesn't have to be through wifi that is a service that i
am waiting to happen here.

My wife bought me the Nugget D5 for Christmas on my advise. I played with one in the store for about 20 minutes and I thought it would be a great phone. I was wrong. The first thing I noticed was that it is very hard to remove the back cover to insert the sim card. I thought I was going to break it. The phone worked for a little bit then it starting freezing and not responding to any swiping motions. I brought it back and got a replacement. The first day I had the replacement the screen started separating from the front panel and the brightness was not working properly. at the highest setting it would only illuminate half the screen. The left hand side had a dull grey area.
So the moral of the story you get what you pay for. I'm going to return it and buy myself the Google Nexus 5 phone for $349. I doesn't have the dual sim but at least I'll know its a good unlocked phone.

Help!!

I've recently purchased the nugget D3 from Staples, it has its limitations but we wanted a dual sim phone for travelling.

Can any helpful person who is familiar with the firmware update requirement please tell me how I go about downloading it? I can't find the Google Play app on my phone and it has been suggested that the firmware update is needed to bring the Google Play icon on board.

Thanks for your help. I do find the support and manual to be next to useless which is a bit of a bummer. My instruction booklet was half french and half english just to add to the fun.
