I've been on SO for about 3 year now and i did use UMB early on until i got tired of the limitations. I was rather surprised they finally got the "Data Plan" off the ground.

Yesterday i added the 100mb data to my phone as i have several cross country business trips coming up and i wanted to use the facebook and twitter apps in addition to the crunchSMS app i'm currently using.

However..The moment i try to use the facebook or twitter apps, i get the "You are currently on a service plan that does not support this application" WTF !? Opera and other news apps work..but the apps that "require" an actual data plan don't work..even though this is now supposed to be a true data plan ?!??!!

I tried both my BB's (Bold 9000 & Bold 9780) thinking it might have been a OS issue..nope no go.
The APN's are updated to the new one SO is now listing..Again no go.

So on a BB.. The "Data" Plan is nothing more than UMB, which is BS since it's $5 more than before.

Did anybody else have this issue and find a workaround or im i just screwed.

Thanks,
Mieko

that is the problem of BB, not SO and why BB is in its current state. The old gen BB needs specific carrier support for its so called 'data'.

If you get the BB10, you should be fine.

So if I have the BB Z10 I will be ok? I'm sitting here, phone in hand, debating whether to switch it over. Thanks!

yes. my understanding of BB10 is it is just like 'normal' smart phone in terms of data and needs no carrier support(server side) of any kind. Just take your sim to a store and test out a BB10
