Normally I have minimal needs.

* Would be nice to have some type of kybd, as I hate using a numerical kybd to type text.

* Ideally quad band (is that the term?) so I can use it when I go to Asia this fall.

* Unlocked or unlockable (I understand this goes from expensive to impossible on many units) so I can just buy/rent a sim wherever I go.

* Would it be cheaper to buy in Asia? Where?

* AAAAND... a good price, good value... iPhone5, Samsung5, HTC1 etc are totally out of my range.

Thanks.

G

You might check out Factory Direct. They have a large selection of unlocked phones.

Thanks.
Is this better than craigslist or kijiji pricewise?

I think I would prefer Kijiji because it is buyers market. The current stock of phones at factory direct are old and expensive. If you do have an eye on a phone let us know, we are pretty good at telling how suitable a phone is by it's model number.

The main risk in buying off Kijiji or Craig's List is that the phone may be stolen and rendered inoperable if it's blacklisted.

I bought my unlocked iPhone 4G 64GB on Kijiji last summer. Brand new never used at an excellent price,
hardly more than a refurbished 8GB from Factory Direct.
Checking it out insert your SIM card to see if it works!

feature phones tend not to be stolen, so I doubt carriers would waste their time setting up a black list. On the flip side, if you see someone selling a iphone 5s for $100, you should be concerned of how hot it is.

I am a frequent buyer and seller of phones on kijiji, and the results tend to be positive for me. I make sure I have a SIM card handy to test the phone of course.

I found a cheap phone. $9, and about $12 shipping. You might be able to price match at Futureshop for a better price! It costs about a dollar to unlock, and once unlocked, should work on the big 3 in Canada and their flanker brands, and rest of the world. Might be Saturday only though.
