I was thinking of getting this phone as a xmas present (for emergency use in the car), and was wondering how well it works. Anybody's experiences with this phone would be appreciated!

It works okay, but in my opinion it is the worst phone that I have ever owned. Construction feels cheap, the keys are hard to select, and navigation isn't the easiest. But, as an emergency phone it cant really be beat. Its cheap, small, and you really don't have to worry about having it stolen. Its small screen probably means outstanding standby battery life as well.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I use it once in a while, and it's fine. The other poster is right – it feels a little cheap, but for occasional/emergency use I don't think you can go wrong with this phone.

The person I want to get it for is a senior citizen, and without meaning any offence to seniors, would this phone be difficult to use for this person?

The 1661 is an awful phone for a senior citizen. The speaker is not all that loud, and the screen is not very good. The keypad is not that great either.
