Hi,

I'd like to purchase a LG Optimus Chic and use it for SO (with Unlimited Browsing). I'm totally new to this and wondering if I can please get some help on the following questions:

1. Can I get this phone from any vendor or should I get the phone from Rogers to guanrantee proper functioning with SO?

2. If I don't get the phone from Rogers, should I "unlock" and/or "root" the phone?

3. If I "root" this Android phone, will it automatically "unlock" the phone? Or is "unlocking" a separate procedure?

4. If I subscribe to the Unlimited Browsing plan of SO, will I be able to use all features such as facebook, gmail, GPS, etc.? The term "Browsing" seems a bit restrictive.

Any light shed on this problem is greatly appreciated!

1) You do not need to buy the phone from Rogers, if you do, you have to make sure the phone is unlocked, or finds ways to unlock it.

2) To get data working, you likely have to root the phone. Make sure the OS is at least 2.2

3) Likely not, you will still have to unlock the phone.

4) You should be able to get most things. VOIP may or may not work with Speakout.

A tad late response but.
When they did block the ports everything was blocked thru port 80 so basically you have to run proxydroid or ASProxy.

As for data just go under networks and you should be able to add a new APN.

Rooting is only required for stuff like wanting to have access to the system partition of your phone.

Both proxydroid and ASProxy require you to root your phone.
