I recently bought a Nokia 2720 from 7-11. I am planning on travelling to the United States, so I will be swapping the SIM card (for an AT&T SIM) when I get there. However, I don't know if the phone is unlocked. It does work with a Rogers sim card, but given that SpeakOut simply uses the Rogers network, this isn't surprising. How can I tell if it is actually locked or not? And if it is locked, how can I unlock it?

The phone is locked. Speakout can give you the unlock code for $25. The Speakout Nokia 2730 is not the same as a Rogers Nokia 2720 phones because the unlock codes are different. That their respective SIM card are cross compatible to each carrier's phones means little to whether the phone is locked or not.

CellUnlocker.net offers unlock codes for more than half the price. However, it appears that they do not provide the service for SpeakOut phones. On the other hand, they do unlock Rogers phones. Should I give it a try?

It would be a waste of time, but sure give it a try. Last time I checked, they did not have the codes for Speakout phones. These unlockers promise the world, and when they cannot do it, they go into the oops, my bad routine.

no one has Speakout/petrocanada unlock code except them. Does anyone know the status of their 25 dollar process. It is supposed to be available now.

I received the code for my Speakout Nokia C3 about a week ago. The first code didn't work, the second one did. If the first code doesn't work contact them without trying a second time. You have 3 chances to correctly unlock your phone. If you try incorrectly 3 times your phone will lock you out.
