Man alive.. I've used SpeakOut several times already on different phones, but I've never had some much grief getting up and running. I'm hoping someone on this forum has run into the same issues before. I've searched high and low but come up empty handed.

Here's the scoop.

iPhone 4. Was activated on Telus. Have since unlocked it WITH Telus, and iTunes gave the "unlock successful" message.

SpeakOut SIM purchased, activated (but no voice or data plan yet...) and inserted, iPhone rebooted. SpeakOut support said that it is activated, and she should be able to dial 611 to confirm the SIM is working.

Phone continuously says "No Service". I am in a service area with typically good signal.

About screen shows SIM # correctly, so it's installed correctly and reading it ok i'm assuming. But the Carrier still says "Telus" (greyed out). Not sure if that's an indication of something wrong or not. Called Telus back again to make sure the unlock was successful, and they confirmed everything on their end was done properly, and the phone is indeed listed as unlocked.

Tried resetting network settings - nothing. Tried re-installing old Telus SIM and then re-installing SpeakOut SIM - nothing.

For the most part, I thought these things were pretty much plug-and-play. I can't believe the amount of grief this one is giving me!

Thanks in advance to ANYONE who can offer up some advice!

Try using "unlockit.co.nz" to set up the APN on an iPhone. Worked for me on my iPhone 4

I have done that also, but I think APN settings are more for the "data", no?? This is why I didn't include that in my notes above, as I didn't think it was related to my "no service" issue.

Or are the APN settings required for normal voice usage?? Maybe i should try again.

I think we're in business now, so I thought i'd post so that anyone else with the same issue may get some assistance.

We ended up plugging the iPhone back into iTunes with the new SIM installed, and we got messages in both iTunes and on the iPhone about needing activation. The iPhone then started activating on it's own, and we successfully got a activation text from SpeakOut. Wahoo!!

Thanks for the great forum.
