I know virtually nothing about prepaid phones. Looking to setup a cell phone for a senior citizen that will use very few minutes. 80% an emergency phone, 20% talk. No data, no text needed.
Looks like Speakout is the best deal since you can put in $25 and it won't expire for 365 days.
None of the phones from 7-11 are that good for a senior. Must be a flip phone to easily disconnect or answer calls without pressing buttons.
Here's the question:
Can I buy one of those Doro PhoneEasy phones designed for seniors from Rogers and use it on SpeakOut? I would likely buy the phone with no monthly contract ($100) and just plug in the SpeakOut SIM. That phone is NOT available on Rogers Pay-as-you-Go.
1. Would it work?
2. Does Rogers let me just buy the phone with no contract and walk away for $100 (no term price)?
3. Do I need any unlocking?
Thank You

1. It should work. Most Rogers phones will work with SpeakOut.
2. You would have to ask Rogers that.
3. Any locked Rogers phone should work with SpeakOut.

I came up with the Doro/Speakout combination for my dear old dad too, so perfect to find this thread. Do we have confirmation that this will actually work, given the above response was only in theory?
Aside from a Rogers-supplied phone, the Doro site says one can get it from Walmart or Shoppers Drug Mart. Can't see them through their online shops. Anybody tried that? Or are they just reselling Rogers anyway?

You would have to ask Doro themselves that. Nothing is confirmed anything will work 100%, however, phones locked to Rogers are known to work with SpeakOut.

Did you have any success with the Doro phone and Speakout? I'm thinking about doing this for my elderly father.

I bought a sim card from from SO using a 25 voucher (3 days in the mail), then paid $99 for the doro phone from Rogers. The sim card worked no problem, with a $5 credit.

I didn't get around to buying the phone yet.
Went to one Rogers dealer today and was told the Doro phone was about $250 to buy outright.
It is $99 with no term but requires activation. I don't understand the difference.
How did you buy it for $99 outright?

Bought the Doro on Rogers online for $99. Got the 7-11 SIM. Worked fine right after plugging in the 7-11 SIM. Another case of a locked Rogers phone working with SpeakOut SIM Thank you for the responses.
