I had been using Speakout for awhile and had noticed that my usage had increased, so I (reluctantly) gave my SIM to my wife (who rarely uses her phone) and she is delighted with it :)

Anyhow (after using Telus prepaid for awhile) I now want to return (to Speakout) but am using at least 75 minutes a month, so I was contemplating switching to Petro Canada, which will save me a few $'s over Telus.

The real reason for my post however is that I have a question, does Petro Canada give me the same advantage as Speakout does (regarding what is long distance) I am referring to the fact that Speakout counts all calls within my area code as local calls.

Cheers

No, Petro Canada does not have a similar local calling area as SpeakOut. SpeakOut's local calling area is much larger.

iamdrumming: I thought Good2go, Petro Canada, and Speakout all covered the same local calling areas. Did that change recently? I am not a Petro Canada user, but with Good2go, all of the 902 area code is a local calling area. The information is out there is pretty sparse. I think I would talk to a customer service representative to make sure.

Although they are run by the same company, they do differ as providers (including top-up expiry/local calling area, etc). As far as I know, Petro Canada's local calling area, is still just the area code you are in.

This has also been discussed before:

As far as the 902 area code you mentioned, yes that area code is quite expansive, covering Nova Scotia and PEI, but it is still 1 area code. Where I am, my local calling area with SpeakOut includes 3 area codes (including my own, not even mentioning the overlay area codes).

Thank you for the info; I am still researching this. I live in BC (Central Vancouver Island) and have saved a fair amount of money, when travelling within my local 250 area code.

I am also thinking that it might make sense to buy a Petro Canada SIM and a Speakout SIM (both) as I already have a few assorted International SIM's that I use when travelling abroad.
