Their website says that you must use a Pet Can phone with their service.

I know you can use any GSM phone with SO.
Is this a key difference between the two systems?

It's the same with Petro Canada; I'm using an unlocked Rogers-branded Nokia 7510 myself.

Anything that works on Rogers will work with Pet Can.
