I have a sim card from a Nokia phone in my iphone 3gs, originally a Rogers locked phone.
Calling, texting, etc all works.
I added data recently.
Browsing, facebook, weather, etc. all works
Mail does not work.
My research on the internet tells me that the proxy server makes the mail request after the proxy switch to the port that I connected to the proxy with – port80. Of course my ISPs use the standard mail ports, none of which are 80.

Has anybody been able to make mail work on 3G from a Rogers locked iphone?
It works from WiFi, but not on 3g.

Thanks for any tips or leads.
I will also consider jailbreaking and finding a better mail application, but I'd prefer not to. It just adds so many more variables when trying to troubleshoot issues like these.
