I have been with Speakout for about 3-4 years and recently switched to Wind Mobile. I could not pass up the ($150 + 1st month free credit) when you port over your phone#. I had a Rogers sim card and ported over to Wind Mobile. I now have 10-11 months of free service with Wind Mobile on their Chat plan which gives me 100 minutes of airtime within my home zone (Toronto or Calgary) and allso have unlimited calling between Wind Mobile subscribers and most of my friends/family who were with City Fido have switched to Wind Mobile's $35 plan. I can talk to them for free for the next 11 months. No contracts and all calling features are included except voicemail. I may switch back to Speakout next year. Please keep in mind the $150 credit deal expires on March 31st.

Didn't you have to basically use the 150 to pay for a phone? Or were you lucky enough to already have a compatible phone?

One more thing. On an HForum thread someone claims they tried to port from Speakout and the only carrier that showed up for the Wind rep was Rogers, so they tried that, but it hasn't worked yet. How did it work for you? Thanks.

Confusing…OP Were you with Rogers or Speakout?

I had an unused Rogers sim card lying around from a Prepaid phone I bought last year. I activated it, Rogers gives you $10 startup airtime, gave the phone# and account# to Wind and they activated a new plan for me using this number ported over from Rogers. You can buy a Rogers Sim card on craigslist for $10 if you do not already have one. I am using a Nokia 3555 which is compatible with Wind Mobile.

Wind is looking quite attractive.

Their top-up denominations last 365 days as well and come in the following options:
$20, $40 or $50.

I like the fact that you can pay online or on the phone (unlike Speakout).

Their phones are a little pricey though… but if they also offer the $150 credit on prepaid plans… that might be the icing on the cake.

Need more info if we can port a SO number over though.

Here's the HowardForums thread:

It appears you need to re-port your number to Rogers and then to Wind.

Also here's a not-so-great thread on the Wind Mobile forums:
