I'll comment on each part of your plan.
This gives me:
- $0.25 / minute for the 1st 5 mins , then $0.15 after that
About average. Speakout charges 20-25 cents. Rumoured that it will increase to 25cents soon.
- No evenings/ weekend free
Evenings and weekends are never free. Some companies have an option (Rogers might be one) where you can purchase unlimited evenings and/or weekends for a fee.
- They will charge you airtime when someone leaves you a message
Yes. Same as any other prepaid plan (and possibly post-paid as well).
- They will charge you airtime when you pick up your messages
Is that when you pick up your messages using your cellphone (which is usage) or using any phone, like a landline. Most companies only charge for picking up messages if you are using your cellphone.
Don't forget, prepaid plans don't charge you a monthly fee for voicemail like most post-paid plans do.
- $0.50 for 911 / month
Most prepaid companies charge something like this, usually a little more. Speakout charges 99cents.
- No Text , No data
I'm sure you can text with your phone, but are charged for each text. Speakout charges 10cents for outgoing and incoming texts are free. Rogers should be in the same ballpark.
- I have to top it back up with at least $20.00 every month or lose the service and the banked minutes.
Most companies have this rip-off short expiry time. Speakout airtime lasts 365 days. Spending at least $20/month prepaid isn't bad AS LONG as you use about that much or more per month. If you use a lot less, then it's a rip-off.
Fifi mentioned the $100/365 day expiry option that Rogers has. If you plan on staying with Rogers, I'd consider going with that.
However, if you plan on going with Speakout, then I would suggest keeping the phone number they gave you with your Rogers SIM card and just use the new number that you'll get with Speakout when you get a new phone. That way you can try and sell your Rogers SIM card somewhere and perhaps get a couple of bucks for it. In other words, if you want to sell your Rogers SIM, then don't port your number. Not sure how much you'll get for it, since it's not really in demand.
