Telus is going to raise their long distance "uplift" rate from 30 cents to 40 cents for their pay as you go service starting on July 18th. Just another reason to drive more customers away from them. :-b

I don't know why people do not use calling cards, especially with the Nokia phones. Program the access number, add a w symbol, dial the access code if needed, add a w symbol, and then the long distance phone number. Easy peezy.
The dial string would look something like this: 18005555555w123456w4165555555
save that, and you have long distance for less then 4 cents a minute depending on calling card.

Hi, thanks for that info, do you know what the w, p, + and * symbols do when inserted in the dial string?

Wow. $24/hour for long distance. In an age where cheap LD is the norm, that's extortionate pricing.

w means wait until you press the call key, after which it will continue dialing
p means pause for 1 second, and then it will blindly dial. pppp means pause for 4 seconds before it blindly dials
I am not totally sure what + and * do. I think they are codes to access features on the phone.

I should also add that some calling cards may sound awful with a cell phone. It depends on how chinzy the calling card company is with the bandwidth. Probably not an issue anymore but it was 5 years ago for me!
