The first question states "Where can I PURCHASE SpeakOut Wireless Airtime?

That lists the provinces where where you can buy Speak Out airtime. You may use the service anywhere in Canada where there is a Rogers signal.

I know about the coverage of the signal. But it seems a bit sad if people living in Quebec eastwards or in the territories cannot use speakout. Obviously people in e.g. Halifax are not going to jump on a plane to Toronto to buy a phone or to top up. And people from e.g. Ontario, enjoying a vacation on PEI, are going to be out of luck if they need to buy more minutes while they're there.

Pity....

Speakout works well here in Quebec ( Montreal) . There is a Rogers signal here. I had a relative from Toronto buy my phone for me . Only costs $10 to ship to me by Canada Post express post. I got the phone the next day.

And since they don't expire for a year, you can buy a couple, load them on your phone, and you don't have to worry about it for a full year!

Speak out works well in Halifax. You can even get a Halifax based phone number if you desire. However, getting airtime could be a problem because there are no seven eleven store here in Atlantic Canada.

coincidentally this is basically the situation I recently emailed Speakout 7-Eleven customer support about (they were very helpful). I just bought a SO phone here in Vancouver for my son, but he will spend part of the summer in Halifax where there are no 7-11 stores. if he runs out of airtime, I can buy a top up here and just give him the voucher code over the phone or email - that's what they said to do. but of course for someone who lives in Atlantic Canada, that may not be so useful if they don't have a friend/relative near a 7-Eleven store.

The solution to your last comment is simple - top-up before you go on vacation! Simple as that. Good idea regardless where in Canada you're going to.

As far as people in Halifax not being able to buy a Speakout phone where they live, well, life ain't fair. I'm in Toronto and there's plenty of things that I can buy in Halifax that I can't get here, or at least as cheap. If I lived in Halifax I'd find a good fish store or two and buy fresh, inexpensive fish all the time. I'd be having lobster several times a week! But I live in Toronto, where the lobster isn't as fresh or inexpensive. But at least I get Speakout, and people on the east coast get fresh, inexpensive fish. So it all evens out in the end.

To be fair, it is not like speakout is promoting in areas it does not sell. That fact that it works in other areas should be viewed as a bonus. There are other carriers out there, such as Petro Canada or PC mobility if you need a cheap, Canada wide carrier.

While coverage is restricted to a few "urban" areas, it's no different from what you'd get on a Rogers plan. My impression is that Bell has better coverage in the north, if that's important.

From the Speakout FAQ:
Where can I purchase SpeakOut Wireless Airtime? Participating 7-Eleven Stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. On-line or telephone airtime purchases are not available.

Have I understood correctly. If I live in one of the other 5 provinces or in one of the 3 territories then I cannot use Speakout?
