Hi
I know that there is no 7eleven to buy phones here but my brother is moving to Toronto.
If I buy a sim card online, and ask my brother to buy vouchers when I need it can I use speakout in Quebec?
I would like to port my 418 area code (Quebec city) phone number to it, and Quebec city must be my home base for local calls.
I was using virgin mobile, but hey are more and more expansive (35¢/minute). Remember that Bell owns them now.
A feature of Virgin that I liked was the email to text gateway [phonenumber]@vmobile.ca. I would loose such feature, right?
Also, it speakout counting long distance calls a different way than other providers? With Virgin, if I go to Toronto I can make local calls.

You certainly can use Speakout in Quebec. I bought a phone with a sim card and voucher for him and shipped it from Toronto. He ported his number also with no charge. He is based in Montreal.

Yes, when you activate the phone you can port your existing 418 number to it. When this is done, your local calling area will be ALL of area code 418. If you go outside this area you will pay long distance for all calls (some people have reported that calls back to your home area are treated as local even if you are on the other side of the country, but I haven't tried this myself). There is no email to text gateway, though you can send messages to your phone from the Rogers website gateway.
