Hi folks. Last year I got a SpeakOut phone on the august promotion for my father, who rarely uses a cell phone.

I got the $100 airtime with a free phone. The phone is still working fine, but my father uses the phone so little he still has over $70 remaining on the account. I know they expire after 1 year, but if I top up for $25 now, will the balance carry over and will it be valid for another year?

Thanks so much.

Yup, it will carry over if you top up before it expires.

That's exactly what will be happening with me. I hardly use my phone, usually only 5-10 minutes a month. Next year when my top up is due I will be getting a $25 voucher, because I know I will have lots of money left on it.

Let's also hope that SpeakOut continues to have all their top ups last an entire year. They are the only cell phone company to do so.

Yeah. Speakout might not have the cheapest per minute rates, but for people who use a cell phone very rarely, it's an absolute steal not having to bother with monthly bills, system access fees and other BS.

Which other company would let my father use a phone for almost a year for only $30 airtime used? All the other pay & go providers have really short expiry on their airtime.

What I like about speakout is the voice mailbox. If you don't use any minutes a month, you only get charged the 99 cents fee and it free, and get your own telephone number, and caller id. Excellent deal.

Mike,
I've just migrated from Virgin and their voicemail only holds up to ten messages….

I'm wondering if there are similar limits/restrictions to SO voicemail also???

How long can a voice recording last when leaving a message? I'm intrigued at the "record where you last left off" feature…..
