Just got a message from speakout on my phone said..

"Speakout: Text rate change

Incoming TXT will be FREE. Outgoing TXT will be 10cents each. Sending as much as receiving will mean no noticeable change in charges."

Me too. This is a surprise. I hope nothing else changes.

Before, it cost $0.05 a text regardless if it was incoming or outgoing. Now, they are changing it to $0.10 just for outgoing texts. Looks they are just evening it out. I do think that $0.10 a text is too high, as texts actually cost the carrier virtually nothing.

I prefer free incoming texts, because I have no control over them — the idea of having to pay when someone spams my phone or gets a number wrong makes my blood boil.

The most important thing for me is the 365 day expiry, and 7-Eleven is not changing that.

I would love that or a unlimited package for like 3-5 bucks a month.

This is great for people overall because of the incoming text spam issue. Wow, a service change that is actually neutral or positive! <img src="http://www.speakoutwireless.ca/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cool.gif" title="Cool" alt="Cool" /> (Thankfully, because it's not like they gave anybody much notice in this case.)

Does the 10 cents charge for a text sent to US number the same or is it also changed?

The US rate stays the same, at 10 cents.

If you have text4free on your itouch, you can outgo text for free. Since incoming texts are free, it's like free texting.

What I find is that, I can't text to CANADIAN numbers, but that's okay since I mostly text to my US friends.
