Indeed, and coupled with the data plan announcement it makes me wonder about their reasoning.

I find it too expensive for a crap phone. I have an LG basic smartphone, and only paid $100 for it. There are better phones out there for the price SpeakOut is asking for their phone.

Maybe they're trying to recoup some of the voucher and/or UMB abuse losses?

It's actually pretty good for those one stop shoppers of which it seems a majority of Canadians are. I paid $100 for a T-mobile Prism and they unlocked it for me, so I guess I was a sap but it does the job for me. More than 100mb would be good but at least the 100 get's you some basic info when you need it, like your email when required. Aimed at us retirees!!

A Nexus 4 is a good phone for retirees, or anyone for that matter, mainly because it is big, with the large, easy to read screen. That it is unlocked and uses the latest Android OS are huge bonuses. And you can get it for $200. So why would you pay money for this Huawei junk?

If you are too poor or cheap to get a Nexus, you still can get a better, Huawei Ascend Y300 phone at Future Shop/Best Buy for $70, and it costs about $10 or less to unlock it. It is still junk, but at the very least, an older version of Jelly bean is on it.

because many people don't want to go to the length of doing all this. For them, just buy the phone from the provider that works is all they want.

I have a young friend who would not buy anything other than a phone from fido because her current number is with fido

I'm surprised the black model isn't online now (for me at least) yet the white model still is.

Nov. 7 update: black is online again.

for $100 star w450 shipped you can get yourself a phone that is several times greater than the y215 if you look at the antutu specs it runs at 17,000antutu quad core 1.3ghz processor 1 gb ram 4gb apps which means you can also run jelly bean well also screen resolution 480p, camera front and back, gps is lacking a little, look around the net star w450 is the china model phone another cool thing its dual sim so what you can do is run speakout on one of the sims, the 2nd sim use another service provider but not wind though doesn't have 1700 frequency.

actually i checked this thoroughly the star w450 is wcdma for data so ROGERS only does HSDPA
but they say it does WCDMA 3g on the 850 band i'm going to confirm this as well.
so rogers will atleast do EDGE speed on the 4 gsm bands but on the other band 3G 850 WCDMA
BELL and TELUS and ROGERS and VIRGIN is capable. again the same with speakout still a great phone.
I think virgin is the best they offer deals for members 2 for 1 cinemas and other things ontop of tuesday
half price and ontop of the scene card buy 10 movies watch 1 free. Plus $5 for mobile tv bell wants you to
commit to a monthly plan before they give you mobile tv. In greece they have radio stations like slacker radio music ie spotify where you subscribe to it through the mobile carrier companies they will let you download as much music you want for free so they give you two for one instead of downloading it through wifi that is a service i am waiting to happen here in canada that has happened in europe.

well... before i bought the huawei phone, i think it is a lousy product as there are too many people saying this. However, after I purchased it (like a gambling), I can tell you that it is a really good phone.
it is a nice pretty fast phone. It also has GPS, I installed 20+ new apps to it and it can send half the files to memory card and save up more space for other apps. Good!

I am not a frequent user who need to use high end apple and samsung.

If you are just a regular user of phone and internet and apps, it should be enough for you.

7-11 speakout is not stupid. do you think it will use a "garbage" phone to destroy its brand name?

NO!
